Rooted in the Limbu Mundhum, Chasok Tangnam is an expression of gratitude and ecological reverence toward the land and ancestral deities. Traditionally, Limbu households conduct the Chasok worship at their own convenience through the month of Senchengla rather than on one fixed day, though most now hold it on or near the full moon.
How it’s celebrated
Households prepare and offer the first portion of the year's harvest to Yuma Sammang and other deities before eating it themselves, and communities gather to exchange greetings, share food and strengthen kinship ties — the Limbu community's own expression of the same Ubhauli/Udhauli seasonal cycle observed across Kirat groups.
Tips for visitors
A community and household-centered festival rather than a public spectacle — most visible in Limbu areas of Nepal's far-eastern hills (Taplejung, Panchthar, Terhathum and surrounding districts).
