Plan a trip around Lhabab DuchenHistory & origin
According to tradition, the Buddha ascended to Tushita heaven to repay his mother's kindness by teaching her the Dharma, then returned to the human realm on a ladder said to have been created by the god Indra — the day marks his descent and reaffirms the Buddhist teaching that liberation is accessible from the human realm.
How it’s celebrated
Monasteries hold prayers and ceremonies, and devotees engage in increased merit-making — prostrations, offerings and circumambulation — following the same multiplied-merit principle observed on the year's other Duchen days.
Tips for visitors
A monastery-focused observance — worth asking about at Himalayan Buddhist monasteries if traveling through the Everest, Helambu or Mustang regions in early November.
