Plan a trip around Bhume Puja (Magar)History & origin
Also known regionally as Bal Puja, Namka Parva or Lokabangey, Bhume Puja reflects the Kham Magar community's earth-centered ritual tradition, performed to keep the land content and productive — a belief system distinct from, though sometimes practiced alongside, Hindu ritual observance in the same communities.
How it’s celebrated
Communities gather around a ritual fire for the Bhume Naach, a dance performed specifically to honor the earth, typically over the mid-May to mid-June period as the monsoon approaches and the agricultural cycle turns toward planting.
Tips for visitors
A little-documented, locally significant tradition — most relevant if traveling through Kham Magar communities of Rukum, Rolpa and the wider mid-western hills.
