The Sunuwar, one of Nepal's Kirat-related indigenous groups concentrated in the hills east and southeast of the Kathmandu Valley (Ramechhap, Okhaldhunga and surrounding districts), maintain their own Mundhum-rooted seasonal calendar paralleling but distinct from the wider Kirat Ubhauli/Udhauli tradition.
How it’s celebrated
Communities hold seasonal worship and gatherings at the Baishakh full moon, led by Sunuwar traditional priests, seeking a favorable planting season ahead.
Tips for visitors
A lesser-known Kirat-related tradition, most visible in Sunuwar communities of Ramechhap and Okhaldhunga districts.
