Ashta Bhairava Yatra
♡A two-day specialist yatra following a traditional eight-shrine Bhairava circuit in the Kathmandu Valley, with clear notes on where identifications are locally contested.
Best for: Advanced Shaiva-tradition traveler comfortable with an evolving, scholarly itinerary
Destinations: Kathmandu Valley
Overview
Bhairava, a fierce protective form associated with Shiva, is venerated at numerous shrines across the valley, several of which are traditionally grouped into an eight-shrine (Ashta Bhairava) circuit. As with our Ashtamatrika yatra, the specific set of eight shrines and their individual names vary between local traditions and neighborhoods, and we don't present a single invented "definitive" list to make the package tidier than the reality on the ground.
Our guide for this yatra is a local specialist who can speak to the specific circuit being followed and where community accounts differ, rather than a generalist reciting a fixed script. We're continuing to confirm shrine-by-shrine details with local priests and knowledge-holders, and this page will be updated as that verification work progresses.
