Dashamahavidya Yatra: Ten Great Wisdom Goddesses

Overview

The Dashamahavidya are a set of ten Tantric goddess forms found across South Asian Shakta tradition, and Kathmandu Valley is home to shrine sites associated with several of them. This is a genuinely specialist yatra: the ten forms, their symbolism and their historical development are the subject of ongoing scholarship, and which specific shrine corresponds to which Mahavidya is not something every source or community agrees on in the same way.

Because of this, our current itinerary is presented plainly as a working draft rather than a finished, fully verified route: we visit shrine sites commonly associated with several of the ten forms, and our guide is direct about which identifications are well-established locally and which are contested or drawn from specific textual traditions rather than universal local consensus. We are continuing to confirm specific site-by-site details with local priests and scholars before presenting this as a definitive circuit, and we welcome questions on-site about what is settled versus still being confirmed.
