Pashupatinath & Guhyeshwari

Overview

A focused counterpart to our Buddhist Kathmandu Immersion, this journey is built for guests specifically curious about Hindu practice as lived in the Kathmandu Valley today: guided visits to Pashupatinath — a major Shiva pilgrimage site on the Bagmati River — and nearby Guhyeshwari, a significant Shakti (goddess) temple a short walk away, alongside the valley's other Hindu temples and shrines.

At Pashupatinath, the guide explains what's appropriate to observe from public viewing areas versus what should be left private, particularly around the cremation ghats, which remain an active site of mourning rather than a photo stop. Guhyeshwari's inner sanctum is closed to non-Hindus, as it is to the general public, and the visit is planned around what can genuinely be observed from outside rather than promising access that isn't available. The remaining days move through other Hindu sacred sites in the valley, with cultural and historical context throughout rather than a checklist tour.
