Patan Metal & Bronze Craft Immersion
♡A four-day journey based in Patan, spending real time with Newar metalworkers and bronze-casting families whose craft has shaped the city's temple art for centuries.
Best for: Craft-focused cultural traveler
Destinations: Kathmandu Valley
Overview
Patan's Newar community is particularly known for metalwork and bronze casting, a craft tradition that has produced much of the valley's temple statuary for centuries and continues today in family workshops around the city. This journey bases you in Patan specifically to spend time with those craft families, distinct from our Bhaktapur-focused Living Traditions journey, which centers on pottery and woodcarving instead.
Mornings are spent with a specific metalworking family, watching the casting process and, where the host is comfortable, trying a step yourself; afternoons are left open for Patan's largely pedestrian old city. Host families are paid transparently as part of the program cost, consistent with our other community-hosted journeys.
