Shakta Kathmandu
♡A two-day journey through Kathmandu Valley's goddess (Shakti) temples, from well-known pilgrimage sites to smaller neighborhood shrines.
Best for: Traveler wanting an introduction to Shakta (goddess) tradition
Destinations: Kathmandu Valley
Overview
This journey introduces Shakta tradition — worship of the Divine Mother in her many forms — through the valley's goddess temples, from widely visited sites to smaller shrines that are nonetheless significant to their local communities. It's a general introduction to Shakti worship in the valley, distinct from our more specialist Dashamahavidya and Ashtamatrika yatras, which focus on specific, more complex goddess groupings.
Your guide explains the range of forms the Divine Mother takes across these sites — fierce and protective at some, gentle and nurturing at others — and how these differing forms fit within a single broader tradition. As with our other temple-focused journeys, restricted inner sanctums are clearly identified rather than glossed over.
