Plan a trip around Ram NavamiHistory & origin
Held by the Ramayana to be the birthday of Ram, born in Ayodhya to King Dashrath — while Ayodhya itself lies in India, Nepal's Janakpur is central to the wider Ram-Sita narrative as Sita's birthplace and the site of their marriage, giving the festival a strong local resonance in the Terai.
How it’s celebrated
Devotees visit Ram and Vishnu temples for special worship and readings from the Ramayana; Janakpur's Ram Mandir and Janaki Mandir hold particularly large observances, with processions and devotional singing continuing through the day.
Tips for visitors
Best experienced in Janakpur, where the Ram-Sita connection gives the day more visible public observance than in other parts of the country.
